As an expectant parent, you
may get a lot of advice about
birth and parenting from
well-meaning friends and
family.  One of the goals of
my class is for my students to
be well informed consumers
of pregnancy and birth care;
one of the best ways to
accomplish this is through
self-learning.  I give you these
suggestions as a starting
point in your research as you
begin your journey towards
parenthood.  Many of my
couples who have positive,
empowering births attribute
it to their ability to take
responsibility for their labor
and birth experiences.
Through this reading, my
hope is that you will develop
your own set of values and
ideas surrounding your
pregnancy and birth
experience.  You can get it if
you really want it, but it
takes knowledge and desire
to achieve your goal.
